California has identified two course models for the Next Generation Science Standards in grades 6-8, the CA NGSS Integrated Learning Progression Model and an alternative Discipline Specific Model.
Two documents, published on the NGSS for California Public Schools, K-12 website, provide middle school educators the rationale for each of the two course models as well as describe the learning progressions for each grade level.
